SHIZUKA “live traditional aesthetics” CD PSF
Another of the seemly endless obscure dark psych bands to emanate from Tokyo. This archival live performance dates back to a 95 Osaka date from a very under documented quartet, that features a drummer and guitar player who both did stints beside Haino in Fushitsusha. A swirling drenching of delay washing over female vocals with some stunning guitar work from Miura Maki. Slightly lo-fi in sound quality but def. a worthwhile release.

AIHIYO “live” CD PSF
Nine track release from Haino’s trio with Takahashi on drums, and Kawaguchi on bass. Cover tunes that become completely unrecognizable after undergoing Haino transformations. One of my personal fav. units that shows a softer, but incredible depressing side.

FUSHITSUSHA “origins hesitation” CD PSF
Ok I’ll admit I totally hated this disc, Fushitsusha stripped down to a duo with Haino, and now passed long time bassist Ozawa. 2001 studio works that finds the band playing through percussion loops and lots of experimenting with other sounds. Not the guitar driven blackness that I think of with Fushitsusha. Maybe my expectations for “Fushitsusha” drove me away from this release?? If titled something else I might have enjoyed it more for what it was instead of what it wasn’t.

KEIJI HAINO “to start lets remove the colour” CD PSF
What a great title riddled with mystery and wizards flair. 2002 recording from Haino for vocals and guitar that was recorded alone in Haino’s lair late at night through low volume. A classic solo disc from the master and one I’ve owned and enjoyed for some time.

KEIJI HAINO “hikari yami uchitokeaishi konohibiki” CD PSF
2000 solo acoustic guitar works from Haino and first release to this point for him on the instrument.

KEIJI HAINO “uchu ni karamitsuiteru waga itami” CD PSF
Just about anyone who’s seen Haino play live solo over the last few years seems to mention his air synth playing. Like musical karate a very visual display that sonically is like something out of star wars. Here you get a discs worth of solo works mixed with some other electronics, also features the only Haino release I’m aware of with color photographs. Highly excellent disc. Kids put away the no fun bands CDR of week club and check this release out. Mind blowing.

HIGHRISE “best of destination” CD PSF
If Russ Meyer invented garage rock it would work like Highrise. Perhaps the most accessible and easiest to translate to US and Euro auds is Highrise. A mix of blown to bits productions, garage rock type tunes, and head searing guitar solo’s from Narita. Saw these guys on tour in 2001 on back to back nights and was just mind blowing. “Best of” is what it says a collection of tunes off a bunch of different releases including 2 unreleased tracks. Icons!!!!

MASONNA WITH RUNZELSTIRN & GURGELSTOCK WITH MASONNA “clitoris pump action” CD tochnit aleph
Import CD edition of 600 copies originally released on cassette in a microscopic pressing of 33 copies. Confusing title which makes me thing it has something to do with the concoction of the recording process but who the fuck knows?? Not really aware of whom Rudolf Eb is but certainly know that other guy know as Masonna. Audio wise is a hard dosage of glitching electronics and vocal mayhem. Audio clip below for proof.
