HIJOKAIDAN “polar nights live”
CD pica
Amazingly impressive batch of new discs
from Lasse Marhaug’s auditory imprint Pica. First of
which is a three track long playing disc from one of Japanese
most formidable noise units Hijokaidan performing in Norway at
the all ears fest in 2006. Track one is the duo of Jojo, king
of noise on guitar, and Junko on the high pitched screams. Trx.
2 is a guitar guitar battle between Jojo and Per Gisle Galaen
and the third trx is the combo Junko and Steve Ove Toft.
Everything you’d want in a noise release- exotic groups
in interesting one off combinations.

INCAPACITANTS “burning orange”
CD pica
No other noise unit gets fellow noise
musicians to gush more then the Incapacitants, a duo that
hasn’t played all that much outside of Japan, but when
they do releases seem to follow providing witness to the chaos
they are able to create. 2007 all ears fest set here captured
with guess sit in by Tommi Keranen. 2 tracks- lots of feedback
and grizzle stretched over something like 70+mins.

THE NETHER DAWN “long shadow of a
dream” CD students of decay
Predominantly a six track solo work from
New Zealand droner Mr Milton. Recorded in 2006. A meditative
release of material that seems guitar in origin played at time
with bows and highly effected recorded in a lo-fi in the moment
type of sense. Psychedelic haunting drones with maybe a slight
hint of Middle Eastern sounds creeping in form the edges at
times. Edition run of 500 copies.

playing tracks of drone manipulations working with what sounds
like a variety of electronics and some lightly sprinkled field
recordings from Boston composer Howard Stelzer released on his

LIONEL MARCHETTI & SEIJIRO MURAYAMA

A release that peaked my interest due to
percussionist Murayama’s resume which includes an
extremely long ago stint as a Fushitsusha drummer as well as
some early service with Null in ANP. This release is comprised
of musical experimentation with French musician Marchetti on
Howard Stelzer’s label.
